Headaches - Diseases and Disorders
over 45 million Americans suffer from habitual, recurring headaches. This is more than the number of Americans
with either heart disease, asthma, or diabetes. Indeed, at any one time, an estimated 20 million Americans are experiencing a headache. Although headaches are not usually life threatening, they do take a physical, emotional, and financial toll on people’s lives. Headaches cause pain and powerlessness, interfere with families,
school, and careers, and lower the quality of life for the sufferers and their families.

Prescription Pain Relievers
We have all felt it,and we probably agree that of all the sensations we are capable of experiencing, pain is our least favorite. Sometimes it’s a shooting pain, like when we step barefoot on a nail or accidentally bite our tongue. Sometimes it comes on very slowly and lingers for hours or days, like a bad sunburn. Or it might hurt only when we move a part of our body, like after we pull a hamstring or sprain an ankle. Still other times, such as during a migraine, the pain comes and goes, with days, weeks, or months between episodes; when it does come, it leaves us almost incapable of functioning. Other than pain, few sensations have generated so many words in the English language to describe them. Pain can be dull, nagging, sharp, burning, aching, searing, gnawing, scalding, stinging, crushing, pulsing, throbbing, pounding, shooting, pricking, stabbing, cramping, wrenching, splitting, unbearable, excruciating, agonizing, blinding, grueling pick your favorite.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation in Clinical Psychiatry
As understanding evolves about how different brain regions are involved in carrying out everyday tasks and in causing brain diseases when they go awry this book describes a new technology that allows physicians to focally stimulate the brain in awake adults through a non-invasive procedure. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation in Clinical Psychiatry is an accessible and authoritative review of TMS, a procedure that is showing promise as a treatment in several disorders. Its authors explain how the procedure works, then the latest findings in a wide range of situations notably in depression, but also in other conditions ranging from migraine to stroke recovery. This concise overview of TMS offers practical guidance for psychiatrists and other clinicians using it as a therapy, or referring their patients to have this done, as well as updating the field for neuroscientists and neurologists. It begins with background on the physics and safety of TMS, a guide for administering the procedure, and a review of basic neurophysiological studies with TMS, showing how it can be used to measure connectivity and excitability of the cerebral cortex.
